Top 10 Stars that I Just Don't Care For

I know that you guys really like reading the top 10 posts, and in light of everything that has been going on in Hollywood lately, I have decided this would be a good time for this list. The list gives you the top 10 famous stars that I really cannot stand. Don't take any offense, everyone has different opinions but these men and women just rub me wrong in one way or another.

1. Katy Perry: I seriously cannot stand her. I have no interest in even seeing the preview for Part of Me, let alone the whole film. Every song that she creates goes to the top of the charts, and then America and the rest of the world has to hear the boring, melodramatic tunes every waking hour of the day. Not a fan. I am glad that she and Russell Brand are no longer together, because he deserves better than her, a lot better!

2. Tom Cruise: You guys probably already saw this one coming from my previous posts. I just really don't get what all the fuss is about. Sure, he is mildly good looking and I won't deny that he can act. But aside from that, I don't agree with the scientology stuff and the way he walks around parading it, well frankly, it's annoying.

3. Drew Barrymore: This one is probably a shock for most people, but I have blogged about this before as well. I love, love, love three Drew Barrymore films: Going the Distance, The Big Miracle and He's Just Not That Into You. But, I really dislike Drew Barrymore otherwise. I think with the exception of the films mentioned, she doesn't pick good movies for herself and ends up playing a character actress most of the time. So really, I dislike her because she doesn't release her own potential and all that she has to offer. I hope that she decides to star in more films like The Big Miracle because that would do amazing things for her career.

4. Scarlett Johansson: Yes, she is beautiful, but what else is she offering. If you ask me, the answer is not really all that much. Sure, she was absolutely great in We Bought A Zoo, but that is the only thing I have ever seen her in that redeems her at all. I think she is too into her own body and that's all that comes across in her interviews. Not a fan, I like people who are more down to earth.

5. Anne Hathaway: I guess I am still on the fence on Hathaway, but I feel like the majority of the time she isn't sure what she stands for. She is very critical of other actresses and yet she hasn't done that much herself if you look at her filmography. I liked her when she was young and fresh in The Princess Diaries and of course I put up with her in The Devil Wears Prada where she stars opposite of Meryl Streep. Other than that, I feel like she plays the same role a lot and is a little bit boring. I am disappointed that she was cast as Fantine in Les Miserables.

6. Rihanna: I have never really had anything against Rihanna, but then again, I have never really liked her either. Her songs are nowhere near as bad as Katy Perry's and some of them I actually like. I just don't feel that she is a good role model for girls and with all this new drama with her and Drake and Chris Brown...well it just gives me a big headache. I think she needs to figure out who she is and just focus on her music for awhile, not collaborating with anyone and seeing where that takes her.

7. Kristen Stewart: I will preface this one by saying that I think she finally did a good job in Breaking Dawn Part 1. With that being said, I think she doesn't even act when she is onscreen. Her demeanor is cold and she always seems to be depressed and in a bad mood. She is one of the richest paid actresses in the entire world and she is loved by Robert Pattinson....what more could a girl want?! I hope that in ten years time we still see her in films, but will real acting and not just a pouty face.

8. Justin Bieber: Do I need to say anything else?

9. Megan Fox: She is just too pretty. Sorry, that's mean, but I'm okay with it.

10. Joan Rivers: Have you ever heard her voice before? I mean, seriously. The only redeeming quality about Joan is that Giuliana Rancic gets to be on Fashion Police. Otherwise, she is just annoying and a little dried up. I don't know why she still gets so much attention.

Not Falling For Taylor's Act Anymore

I don't know how all of you feel but I am done falling for Taylor Swift's act. This is truly unfortunate because I have been a devoted "Swifty" as she calls her fans. I own all of her CD's, I have listened to them while driving religiously, the corny ballads have gotten me through some breakups and I have even seen her in concert. These feelings that I have toward her now are not coming from a vindictive place. But, they are here nonetheless and I think they are here to stay.

Since bursting into the country music scene and then gradually fading into the pop one as well Taylor has been a well-rounded cute celebrity. We have all ushered her with praise for her various accomplishments, cried for her when John Mayer broke her heart and winced every time she had yet another breakup. That laundry list of breakups brings me to my main point. This girl is becoming a serial dater. Who has she not dated in the world of young and hot celebrities? I can't really think of anyone. She has even had her share of some of the older men in Hollywood, and now I hear that she wanted to date Bradley Cooper! She went to Jennifer Lawrence and asked that the two of them be set up! Not only is this outrageous to think that BCoop would consider dating her, but there is a 16 year age difference between the two. Not to mention the fact that it wouldn't last and don't even get me started on how the world does not need 'Dear John' part II.

It's hard not to realize the blatant truth here: she isn't even dating for love. I would say she is dating to pay the bills, but she is dating to buy extravagant houses and push herself even higher up on the iTunes chart. I don't care what people's motives are for writing music. Who am I to judge? However, I think it's sad that someone who is obviously sweet and caring has morphed into this person who is only dating for money and higher fame, when she is already one of the most famous individuals on the planet. I am sure that she doesn't see life through this lens, and I am sure that her family and friends don't either. What was once a cute joke about her serial dating tendencies has turned into full on truths that we as the public can't deny anymore. Her last album was so clearly written about the men in her past. I could pinpoint song for song who it's most likely about. As a fan, it is deterring me from listening to her latest album Red and it will deter me from buying her next album all together.

Now, for all you Swifty's out there, I am completely sure that Taylor isn't going anywhere. She has captured America's heart and she is here to stay for what I am sure is quite some time. I just hope that she matures and grows up sooner rather than later. Another rendition of "he broke my heart, and now I have to start over AGAIN" can not be handled another 16 times over on another album. If she wants to stick around for the long, long haul she should work on what she truly wants out of life. And stop bothering her friends to set her up with people who are completely out of her league.

Anne Hathaway Rises

Literally just walked in the door from seeing The Dark Knight Rises. First off, I really have no words about the film as a whole other than it is fantastic. I know there is a lot surrounding the film and I still offer my deepest condolences to those in Aurora, but the film itself is utterly amazing.

As we all know, Anne Hathaway stars as Selina Kyle in this film. And, as most of us all know, I am not the biggest fan of hers. I even put her on my list of Top Ten Stars that I Just Don't Care For. So, you may be wondering why I am even writing a blog post about her.

Well, earlier today I watched The Devil Wears Prada and my sister and I had a huge discussion about the actress. She said she isn't as bad as we like to think she is. She is exactly right. I don't always give her the credit that she deserves, I just don't feel that she has previously lived up to her potential. WELL, she is rising, because she is definitely living up to her potential now.

I found myself rooting for her in every scene, wishing and praying that she would succeed. That she would become good and not keep in her jewel thieving, evil ways. I wanted her to be with Batman and to see the two of them make it. I mean seriously, here I am sitting in the theater, willing this character to live and conquer evil. Seriously, willing a character that Anne Hathaway is portraying...it was unreal. She definitely rises to the occasion.

I am more hopeful for Les Miserables now than I have ever been before. This is the coming of a new age, where Anne Hathaway holds her ground and shows the world her acting abilities.

Top Ten Movies to Watch on a Sunday Afternoon

It's Top Ten Week. Each day I will be bringing you a different list, so make sure to check daily.

Since it is Sunday, I decided to go with the best movies to watch on a lazy Sunday afternoon. You can use one of these movies next weekend.

Somethings Gotta Give
Who doesn't love this romantic comedy? Diane Keaton and Jack Nicholson team up as an unlikely couple, Harry and Erica. Harry starts by dating Erica's daughter who is played by Amanda Peet. He realizes that it is far better to date in his own age category when he mets the striking, hilarious and witty Erica. Why is this a good Sunday movie? It's just enough life put into the typical romantic comedy that it keeps you hooked. Jack Nicholson and Diane Keaton make a hot older pair and anyone can connect to the characters. Make some popcorn with this one.

Moonstruck
This is my mom's favorite movie of all time. It's perfect for a Sunday afternoon because it is a film with everything in it. You have heartbreak, peppy music, and a dysfunctional family. Nicholas Cage has the best performance of his career and the Grandpa is my absolute favorite character. Watching this always makes me feel comforted. Definitely one to watch in your pajamas.

Mr. Holland's Opus
This movie is nothing but adorable. It is one of those movies that can be described perfectly as a feel good film. It's amazing to watch his career and the fulfillment that he personally gets out of conducting the high school orchestra. I always remember watching this movie as a kid curled up on the couch with the family.

Forrest Gump
This movie can fit every single genre of film except for possibly horror. I don't think that is anything terrifying about Forrest Gump, at least not to me. Tom Hanks is at his best along with Robin Wright and Sally Field, I don't know what could be better. It's a long movie too, which is perfect to lay around to and not care about the time. Most of all, its one of the most quotable movies of all time. Watching Forrest with his son is the most touching of all, and I always end up crying. All these things add up to the perfect Sunday afternoon movie.

When Harry Met Sally
This movie is nothing short of amazing. Every single woman in America, and probably the world, loves this movie. It is a rite of passage to see this movie and to repeatedly watch it anytime it is on television. So many famous scenes from this movie and it really launched both Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan into the high points of their careers. Their everlasting and complicated love always makes me feel like their has to be someone out there for everyone. Grab the chocolate ice cream for this one.

Julie & Julia
Of course you all knew a Meryl Streep movie would make my list! This movie is truly crafted with genius lacing two stories together flawlessly. Meryl shines as does Amy Adams, one of my other personal favorites. The real reason this film makes this list in particular is because it follows someone's life. It is always fun to follow someone through a biographic type of film, especially when you are dreading going back to the real world the next day. Best of all, you can impersonate Julia Child the entire time!

Footloose
Yes, the original. I don't know why but there is something about watching Kevin Bacon while being half asleep on the couch. Plus this film is iconic and a classic. There is also something about watching a movie you have seen a million times just so you can say you have seen it again. The music in this film is what really makes it good for Sunday afternoons because the songs will be stuck in your head all day Monday at work.

Mrs. Doubtfire
I'm not even sure that I have to explain why this movie made the list. Personally, I think I could watch this movie any day of the week. Robin Williams is genius in this role and once again Sally Field graces the screen in this movie too. Just watch it.

So I Married an Axe Murderer
Most people I have met have never even heard of this movie. It kind of flew under the radar and its a dark comedy which doesn't interest everyone. Personally, I love a good dark comedy. This one stars Mike Myers which just enhances the whole film into being a hilarious twisted comedy. You will laugh the entire time.

My Sister's Keeper
It's a tearjerker but worth it. Although I am not the biggest fan of the ending, since it was changed dramatically from the original story in Jodi Picoult's book; it still is a fantastic film. The best aspect of this movie is the casting. Every single main character is well rehearsed and executes their role with a precision that is hard to come by. Cameron Diaz was able to break out of her shell in this film as well, away from typecasting. Grab a box of tissues and your sweatpants for this one. Don't worry the feeling you get during the last scene of the movie will make all the crying worth it.

Just Another Reason

Okay, a lot of you are going to think I am mean for this blogpost, but I don't really care. This is just another reason why I don't like Anne Hathaway: she got in the wrong SUV yesterday when leaving LAX. This might sound like a stupid reason to dislike someone, but this is not the actual reason I can't stand her. The reason is this (well actually there are a lot of reasons): she would get into the wrong car when the paparazzi are taking her picture. She just would be that person. Instead of keeping her head in the situation (where no one was actually hounding her), she just jumped into the first black SUV. Assuming it was hers. I am sure that 90% of the time the only black SUV sitting on the side of the road would be her car, but not always Anne. So today, we learned a valuable lesson. Don't assume that just because you are a celebrity that everything is yours. Also, don't stand there for an entire minute and a half looking like a deranged person. She seemed to be insisting that the cars was hers. Only to then see another SUV coming up the street with her driver.

Ahh, the lives of celebrities. If we could all have SUVs and drivers waiting for us at every and any corner.

Magic Has Been Restored-The Academy Awards 2012

Wow! Wow! Wow! What a night! This post is set to be long, so buckle up. I have a lot to say so feel free to skip around to the parts that you like!

Red Carpet:
First up is my list of Best Dressed. I was flipping between ABC coverage and E! coverage. Both were phenomenal. The only thing that I will say is that no one interviewed Meryl. I think her and Angelina sneaked in without being seen for more than a minute or two on the carpet. My overall Best Dressed was Jessica Chastain. At first, I was not a fan, but over time looking at her dress, especially when Ryan Seacrest was interviewing her I fell in love with it. I have a similar complexion to Chastain and I would feel like I was taking a huge risk wearing that dress. If you missed it, it was a beautiful floor-length gown in black with gold accents on top. Her hair was simply, but elegant at the same time. What really made her my Best Dressed pick was the way she owned the dress when she walked, she was lovely.

My other top choices were Glenn Close, loved the blazer! Along with Angelina Jolie, Leslie Mann and of course Meryl Streep. When I saw my first glimpse of Meryl, a little bit of my faith was restored that she might win because she was wearing a gold dress. She wore a gold dress the last time she won an Oscar, 30 years prior to last night!

Worst Dressed is up next. I am not a huge fan of doing this, because everyone for the most part really looked beautiful last night. However, to be a blog that fully encompasses all the feelings of the Oscars, I am going to put down a few names that I thought could have worn something better. Those would be Shailene Woodley for one. She is still such a teenager, and I wish that she stuck with something a little more fun and flirty. I also thought Judy Greer could have gone with something that didn't scream Catwoman. The last name here would be Rooney Mara. I think her stylist could have picked something more regal for her. I know she is younger and wants to stand out for not being your typical Hollywood star, but I didn't feel like her dress represented her role last night, she was nominated for Best Actress after all.

The Show:
First off, Billy Crystal was great! I don't care what anyone thinks, he is hilarious! I think as the night went on he got stronger and stronger, he became more relaxed and his jokes and demeanor really showed that. His best part of the whole night was when he narrated people's thoughts. I loved the Brad Pitt comment about parent teacher conferences and Morgan Freeman's voice-over of March of the Penguins.

There were so many highlights of this years show, but I am going to include my favorites. First, Cirque de Soleil was amazing. I loved how it started out with such as a classic as North by Northwest. The acrobats really brought the stage to life and I thought that without them, I would have felt like the set itself lacked depth and luster. Octavia Spencer's speech for Best Supporting Actress was so adorable. She obviously was overcome with shock and awe and the result was a truly great speech that really showed the emotion that must go through a winner's head. She truly deserved that award and I bet she is feeling really, really great today!

Another great acceptance speech was Christopher Plummer. At the age of 82 he is now the oldest person to win an Oscar. He looked amazing and his speech was so touching, especially what he said about his wife. I always love when men have the strength and confidence to talk about their wife in a way that shows their real emotions.

Thoughts:
I was really lucky to participate in a live chat on people.com last night. It was so fun to be able to talk with people who are just as obsessed as I am! One of the things we talked a lot about was who should host next year. After watching both McCarthy's bit with Crystal and Emma Stone interacting with Ben Stiller when presenting, I believe they should co-host next year! There is no way that I am taking credit for this idea, but I really think they would be able to play off of each other really really well. Something to think about Academy!

The Artist winning for Best Picture was in no way a shock to me. What was a shock was that it picked up Best Director. This year was truly a huge year for this category. For the director of The Artist to win when nominated against two of the greatest greats: Scorsese and Allen, was truly amazing! I also was not expecting Hugo to sweep up as many awards as it did. If you all remember, I truly did enjoy and love that film, but I didn't think it would run the awards. If any of you are paying very close attention to my blog, Hugo's sweep is the reason that I didn't score too well overall in my picks for this year's show.

MAGIC MERYL!!
You didn't honestly believe I wouldn't talk about this did you? Let me just say, that you all knew that I believed Viola Davis would walk away with the Oscar. I have been saying that even before official nominations rolled out; I have been saying that since December when I first started this blog. I am sorry to Viola that you did not win, but I have such hope for you that you will once again be nominated in the future.

But Meryl, Magic Meryl as I call her; you were radiant! You looked amazing and I am so incredibly happy that you won! I could not feel more joy about her winning that award last night. It was way past due, with her career that has single handedly helped to shape other careers in Hollywood. This amazing woman who has brought characters to life including: Lindy Chamberlain, Julia Child and now Margaret Thatcher, was finally honored once again!

Even at the end, I still thought Viola would take it and I think so did Meryl. When Colin Firth came on stage to present the award he had a smirk on his face that made me take a second look. I wouldn't admit it out loud but I was praying that she would win. His note when introducing her was adorable: "Mamma Mia...We were in Greece, we danced, I was gay and we were happy. I probably fathered your only daughter, they were perplexing times." Loved it! When he called her name, I screamed and began running around the room. It was nothing like my reaction to her winning the Globe. I ended up on the floor crying and rolling around. I then gave her my own standing ovation and preceded to cry for the rest of her speech.

Her speech was brilliant, and I loved her joke about America groaning. I don't think anyone truly was groaning though. Even if you favored another actress, you have to admit that the Queen deserved to take that award last night.

All I have done at work all day is talk Oscars! I hope you enjoyed my recap and I welcome all your thoughts and comments! Now, all I have to look forward to is watching all the films I can this year so that I am informed for next year.

What's Lucky About The Lucky One?

Many of you have been going to the movies like crazy over the past couple weeks. I do not blame you, there have been so many great films coming out, and the good news, it just keeps getting better. Around the corner is the summer, and we all know what that means, summer blockbuster movies! Gotta love those!

Something else is coming to theaters soon too, a new Nicholas Sparks book made into a movie. I know that many of you have of course seen The Notebook, his most famous book to movie. But there have also been Nights in Rodanthe (biggest tear jerker of all time, especially the book version) and The Last Song featuring America's current favorite hottie....none other than Liam Hemsworth!

All of the films have been good in my opinion except for one, that was Dear John. Don't take this the wrong way, because the film is pretty decent. However, it is truly a different story than is presented in the novel. But I guess it's alright, because of course we all love to stare at Channing Tatum as well, right?!

Well, now you all will get to stare and go gaga over someone that has truly blossomed into an adult actor. That's right, I'm talking about basketball star, singing sensation....Zac Efron! Honestly though, he has grown so much as an actor from those films and I know he is going to fill this role with such ease while managing to bring a real personality to the person who was on the pages of the book.

So, I just finished reading the book earlier this week. I have been wanting to post on it ever since I read the first chapter. I know it may be dorky to read Nicholas Sparks novels, but I am not one to care what others think. I think he is a fabulous writer who focuses on real situations and the classic human insticts that we all have to find true love in the end. His books are nice to read, because they flow very easily and you can usually finish them in a day or two. The stories however, will stick around in your mind for far more than that amount of time. All of his novels include someone tragically dying. If you know what I am talking about, then I am pleased to tell you that in The Lucky One, the death is not so tragic after all.

After reading the book, I am more excited to see the film. The trailer has looked amazing for months, and I will admit that every time I watch it, I end up crying. I am for sure a softie! Nevertheless, I think the subject matter behind the film could take down even the strongest of people. I do not want to give away too much of the book, because it will spoil the film for all of you. If you want to know, seriously go pick up a copy of the book, because paperbacks are really only $7.99 right now. I think we can all handle that! But, don't be disappointed if the film doesn't turn out like the movie. There are always subtle things that have to be changed because of role conflicts, scheduling conflicts or some other kind of conflict that we as normal people don't understand. Watching the trailer now, I am hoping of course that certain elements of the book remain intact in the film because they really create the personalities of the characters.

However the movie is made, and it looks pretty much comparable to the book so far, you should all go see it. Take your best friend and settle in. The movie comes out on April 20th. I hope you go find out just why Zac Efron is so lucky, or maybe he isn't really the lucky one after all?!

Wrecking Ball

I've been silent about Miley Cyrus And her new found love of twerking and short haircuts and nudity because quite frankly everyone has been talking about it enough. That being said, I am finally going to break my silence. Why you ask??

I'll tell you why. I don't care what Miley does or what she says. Quite frankly her newest single, "Wrecking Ball" is her best since her Hannah Montana days and "The Climb." "We Won't Stop" was one of my summer jams. She is parading around the fact that she is no longer a child whilst trying to keep her loyal followers. She is doing all of these stunts to get publicity and attention and even though it's negative attention, she is selling albums. Good for her!!

However, with her newest interview with the awful reigning Matt Lauer, she said that she is the happiest she has ever been. I can't stomach that. It's a lie, truthfully an idiotic lie. She can parade around saying life is good, but we all know that she can't be happy with the way things are right now.

So did she plan on hysterically crying in front of millions of viewers both live and on their couches during the iHeart radio music festival? Did she plan on her engagement end to be ripped apart but he media? Does she like the pain of being broken up with? Apparently she does. I don't care if this blog gives her more attention. This rant is nothing more than wondering why she doesn't just surrender. She should just admit that life isn't what she wants it to be but that she is striving to make it better. We can't all be A-list celebrities I guess. I wish her the best and for her to stop the facade and pull herself up by her bootstraps and sing and song.

One Year of Jentertainment: My One Year Anniversary

Yesterday was a very exciting day, and today is even better. As of yesterday, my blog turned one year old; as of today we are in year two of Jentertainment. It's hard to believe that I have been writing this blog for a whole year. I can't believe that I have been pouring my ideas, feelings and quirks into these posts for 365 days. I still remember the first post I wrote all about Alan Rickman getting jipped from the awards circuit last year. I didn't think it would gain any attention and that I was just putting words into a format so I could see what it looked like. Or at least that's what I thought at the time. When I look back upon that post now, as I did a week ago in preparation, I see excitement, enthusiasm and diligence. That one blogpost has better writing than some that I wrote a week ago. That doesn't mean I care any less now, it just means that I was more than ready to be talking and typing about what I am passionate about. I love entertainment and I am beyond words to try to explain how happy I am to be an entertainment blogger.

One year later, I am still so excited and my enthusiasm for this blog has not died. Sure, some days I can't always find something to blog about right away. But that's because I still have that fresh desire to make this blog good for all you loyal readers out there. This year has been a year for me to remember and much of what has happened to me is because of this blog and connections that I have been able to make.

I moved this year and settling into a new place always makes me crave one thing: routine. This blog has given more routine than you will ever know. I love to blog everyday if possible and the whole experience of staring at a blank screen and then creating words that flow together is kind of spiritual in a way. This blog has given me something to do and more importantly something to improve. It's become a part of who I am.

I have also gained many unique opportunities after starting this blog. The first would be pre-screenings of films. The first time this happened I won tickets on the radio (Mix 93.3) to see The Lucky One. Then I started calling all the time hoping to win again. I would call into the morning talk just to give my opinions and sooner or later I was fed into a website called gofobo.com. I set up an account and started to get more invites to local pre-showings that were not filled. Then came my invitation to see The Hunger Games a day before the midnight premiere. As I recounted to you that day in a post, that experience is one that my sister and I will never forget. It made it all the better that we still had tickets for the midnight showing because I did my first Jentertainment interviews. Since moving I have been attending  a lot more pre-showings, which has enabled me to give you guys a sneak peek into the world of upcoming movies.

This year I also saw Meryl Streep on The View and Giuliana Rancic speak in Stamford, CT. While I know you are tired of hearing about these events, they seriously have shaped my life. Starting this blog a year ago and writing a week's worth of posts about Meryl movies was amazing. But I never dreamed that I would come anywhere close to seeing her on a television show. That dream can be checked off my list. I only hope in future years of Jentertainment that I can meet her and express my thanks for her being an inspiration to me and to this blog. Giuliana Rancic has also been a major inspiration to me. Her talk in Stamford was about always seeing the positive in your life, something that she has openly struggled with in her last year of being diagnosed with breast cancer. I was crying sitting there listening to her talk and I was awestruck with one emotion: hope. I have hope that one day this blog can turn into more. Don't get me wrong, I love writing for all of you readers out there. Wherever you sit in the world reading my silly little posts, top ten lists and movie reviews I sincerely thank you from the bottom of my heart. I would love for Jentertainment to lead to new opportunities for me, bigger and better; and I know that will take place in 2013 and beyond!

Who Likes Gwyneth Paltrow?

Gwyneth Paltrow is everywhere today. Seriously, she announced that she wants a talk show like Ellen. She is on the cover of Entertainment Weekly and Glamour. No, I am not stupid. I know the reason for this is that Iron Man 3 comes out tonight at midnight. I just don't get the allure behind her.

I have never been a fan of her work or her person. She always seems like one of those stars who is only a successful actress because of who she is connected to. Funny that she seems like that, because it's exactly the case. She is the goddaughter of Steven Spielberg (who coincidentally also is the godfather of Drew Barrymore, who I also think has little actual talent). I am not saying that she is a bad actress, because I couldn't agree with that statement. In my eyes she is simply just mediocre. Like I don't understand all the hub-bub and big news about her all the time. I can see why she was cast in Iron Man though because the need for the role was fulfilled. I haven't seen all of these movies, but yet I know that  the role she is in does not need to be filled by a great and beyond talented actress. It needed to be filled by someone like Paltrow who is famous enough to make the front cover of the Bluray look interesting enough and can support the lead, while at the same time being nowhere close to actually stealing the show. Hate me if you want to, but I just had to rant about this. It's one of those things that drives me crazy. I am anxiously awaiting the day when Paltrow does something that makes me cry, or feel a strong range of emotions.

I care about the entertainment industry and the people who are involved, and sometimes it just seems like someone payed someone else's meal ticket. Yes, you can say this about a lot more celebrities other than Gwyneth Paltrow and Drew Barrymore, but this is my blog and I do what I want. I am also sure that most of you agree with this post whether you would admit it or not.

Movies All About the Workplace

Whether you love your job or you can't face another day of the same mundane people and setting, it's hump day. That's right ladies and gentlemen, Wednesday marks the official middle of the week. I wrote this post for any and all people. It's a fun night to put in a movie and kick back with a glass of wine. Check out the list that I have compiled below.

Office Space
"Where's my stapler?" Not only a great quote, but seriously a great movie. If you have seen it, you know what I mean and if you haven't, you are seriously missing out. The classic movie about everything that can go wrong in the workplace.

Up in the Air
Being stuck in the airport for your entire life has to suck. Firing people for your livelihood must only suck more. But hey, it's not your life. And you get to watch George Clooney.

In Good Company
Imagine meeting your girlfriend's father only to find out that you are his boss. Then imagine how the father feels. Then picture Dennis Quaid and Topher Grace and Scarlet Johansson and you have yourself the perfect recipe for a fantastic film.

Monsters Inc.
Disney did it again with this gem. And if you can't get enough of this one, then head to theaters this summer when the sequel hits.

Broadcast News
A classic with Albert Brooks, William Hurt and Holly Hunter. Great film all about the rivalry between people in the workplace.

The Social Network
Striving to build something amazing from the ground up? Watching this movie can help you to feel success. It's honestly not the best movie in my opinion, but it's an experience to watch. Sometimes we all need the experience. Plus, you will learn a bunch of stuff you didn't know about a website you probably spend a third of your time on.

Waiting
If you have ever worked in the restaurant business and hated your life, then this movie is for you. Plus, Ryan Reynolds is a young hottie in this one.

Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy
If you are like me, you will laugh until you almost cry or pee. The antics that take place in this workplace are like no other in my opinion.

Big
If life seems hard, and work really sucks then pop this one in your Blu-ray player. Imagine being 13 and being thrown into the workplace and the world of bank accounts, parties, alcohol, and relationships all at once.

Mystic Pizza
This flick shows the good side to working in the restaurant business. On top of that you get to see very young Julia Roberts.

The Devil Wears Prada
Obviously this one makes the list, and if this list was ranked would take the first spot. I don't really care if you all think I talk about this movie too often, because I am pretty sure you can't actually do that. It's a great film with an impeccably picked cast. Go work for the Dragon Lady, Miranda Priestley for a day and then re-evaluate your own job.

Bridget Jones Diary
Fighting with your boss/person you have been sleeping with in front of everyone is the cherry on top of this amazing movie. It's really become a cult-classic and has its own following of people, are you one of them?

The Proposal
You hate your boss. Your boss is an illegal immigrant. You pretend-engage to your boss. You kiss your boss. Your boss leaves you at the altar. You're in love with your boss. You just summed up Ryan Reynold's character in this hilarious and epic movie.

It's May Day (Top Ten Outdoor Movies)

It's May Day everyone, or as it is more commonly known: the first day of May. I love this day every year. It is a specific reminder in my head that it is finally going to stay this warm temperature that has been flirting with the air and soon I will be able to wear shorts and flip flop every day! A lovely time of year except for the horrendous allergies, but that's beside the point.

In lieu of today's warm weather and holiday I thought it would be fun to write about the top ten movies that make me want to live my life outside. Of course most movies feature a scene or multiple scenes in which the characters frolic outdoors. But these movies are the ones that I associate with warm weather and feeling good.

1. Moonrise Kingdom
Wes Anderson made a literal masterpiece with this movie. I laughed, I cried and I laughed some more until my stomach hurt. It is a unique view of young teenage love during the summertime. More than half of the movie is outdoors and the whole movie is freaking fantastic.

2. Jaws
It might scare the pants off of you (or maybe your bathing suit) but this movie will make you want to hit the beach, no matter what.

3. A Bug's Life
Whenever I watch this movie I think of how fond of bugs I was as a kid. I used to love to put the worm on my dad's fishing hook. I now hate bugs, but this movie makes me believe (just for a moment) that they are really just friendly little creatures having their own outdoor adventures. Plus, I always want to try and build the bird model at the end of the movie.

4. Big Fish
Practically the whole movie takes place outside. It makes you want to live outside, or at least go camping for a few nights.

5. The River Wild
Meryl Streep is brilliant in this film along with Kevin Bacon and John C. Reilly. Rafting down the river  rapids can be great family fun or it can be a dangerous and gun-filled fight for your life.

6. The Parent Trap
Yes, I am referring to the new one with Lindsay Lohan. Say what you will about her, but before she got into partying, she was a terrific actress. I love this movie for more than the summer camp and outdoorsy scenes, but it does also make a fine addition to this list.

7. Dirty Dancing
Again in this film we see the outdoor scenes making a huge impact on the plot. The whole movie is centered around a dance competition that takes place at a summer resort after all. Plus, the dancing isn't half bad to look at and neither is Patrick Swayze.

8.  Enchanted
The most famous scenes of this movies are the ones in central park. I sometimes wonder how they get the greatest city on Earth to cooperate with such movie sets, but for this particular instance, I am glad they did. The movie is not Disney's best, but the scene where "That's How You Know" is sang is truly an amazing outdoor accomplishment.

9. Failure to Launch
Not a true masterpiece, but definitely a high-ranking chick flick. SJP and McConaughey dazzle in this one and Matt's character battles with natures elements in almost every scene. He is bitten by a chipmunk for goodness sakes.

10. Tuck Everlasting
I don't care what anyone says, I think this movie is great. I loved the book, I love the movie and I love Alexis Bledel. It's a win, win, win.

Butter

I know I am really late seeing this film because it came out in 2012, but I don't care. After traveling to redbox last night and picking up Butter and Thats's My Boy I was happy that I decided to put in the first one first. Everyone should see Butter for multiple reasons but let me give you the first reasons now: the actors. This is a movie literally loaded with people. Some who are very famous for good reasons and some who tend to be overlooked for their talent. The cast includes: Jennifer Garner, Ty Burrell, Phyllis Smith, Yara Shahidi, Rob Corddry, Hugh Jackman, Ashley Greene, Olivia Wilde and Alicia Silverstone. See, it's literally chocked full. And I swear Alicia Silverstone is not actually annoying in this movie (which is an accomplishment all in itself!).

The second reason why this movie is so great is because of the comedic talent behind the cast and the chemistry that they had together. Let's face it: the movie is about a butter-sculpting competition: it's weird! The cast had to get into that art form, I can relate it most to The Office. It's a bunch of people running around doing and caring about weird stuff that doesn't usually happen in real life. But the key is that it is hysterical. I laughed so hard during this movie but especially during one scene. Rob Corddry plays the foster parent for Yara Shahadi's character. They are sitting in the car about to go sign up for her to be a butter carver and they have a discussion about all of the things that could go wrong when she enters the buildings. Piranhas, bears and racist ninjas are on the list with about two dozen other things that just make you laugh. This is a conversation that we have all either had with someone else or had in our own head when heading into something that we are dreading or have apprehensions about. The movie was real and unrealistic at the same time, which I have to admit is one of my favorite things about film. You can be transported to a different place full of things that you encounter in your daily life and in your dreams and they are put together to make sense.

The film is fantastic and of course the cherry on top is that it features my husband Ty Burrell. Just kidding! I have this running joke with my family that he is my husband because I want my future beloved to be just like his character on Modern Family. He is also spectacular in this movie along with my new favorite Hugh Jackman. It's a movie about heart and soul with a whole lot of butter and comedy thrown in.

Movie Critics

Why are critics so harsh on films? Many of you as my readers may think that my reviews are harsh, but those who write for magazines and online articles tend to rip movies to shreds. I never really understood this growing up, and to be honest, I don't often look at reviews as an adult. But when I do, I still notice the intensity that these writers. They seem to rip the actors, directors and crew into minuscule pieces while they type away on their computers. Reflecting on all of this, I realize that I have the tendency to do the same.

So why are we so harsh on the films that we like? I find that critics are harsher on films because the films matter to them more than the average Joe. Seems backwards I know, but when thinking about it more, the critics care more deeply about not only the film that they are reviewing, but all films. Looking at myself, I watch most films that I can get my hands on. I go to movies like it's going out of style, and will see anything and everything. I also repeat watching films and go back in actor's filmographies to discover more about their methodology and how they go through the process of making their characters. So when I watch a new movie in theaters, say for instance Now You See Me, I am comparing Mark Ruffalo's character to every role that I have seen him portray in the past. It's almost like a film strip in my head, the comparisons that role through and the thoughts that I have about whether he is doing the role justice or not. Which in the case of Ruffalo in that film, I think it was his best work ever.

Film critics do the exact same, but they are comparing a million and one other things. For them to watch a movie, it's an entire process. They aren't watching the film for enjoyment, they are watching it to critique (I know it doesn't seem like rocket science but to some people this is a revelation). Critics compare movies, actors, directors and crews until they are blue in the face. While you might just be watching the action packed scene, they are looking into the lighting, the scenery, the animation and so on and how it all ties together to present a good front or a bad front.

So the next time that you read a review before going to see a film, take it with a grain of salt. Just because I happened to slam the movie, or claim it's the best one ever, doesn't mean that you won't have the opposite feeling. Reading reviews on MSN for instance can deter you from going to said movie, when it could end up being one of your favorites. The greater message here is that everyone has different opinions and people are going to have different reactions to films. But the overall reason why there are so many different kinds of movies, is because there are so many different kinds of people. So get out there and go to the movies, you can even become a critic yourself.

Movies Characters We ALL Love to Hate

Let's admit it, we all hate certain characters that have graced the screen. But most of the characters that we have hated, we secretly love because their brilliance is in being able to hate them. The character is so good, so well thought out and brings such a richness to the story...that we hate them, but in turn love them! It's a love-hate relationship.

1. Bane (Tom Hardy), The Dark Knight Rises
Is anyone out there trying to bring more destruction than Bane? I think not. But he is such a badass in the whole taking down Gotham thing, that you have to kind of love the character. And let's all admit that the mask is the best part!

2. Dolores Umbridge (Imelda Staunton), Harry Potter Franchise
If you ask me, this woman is worse than Voldemort and Bellatrix Lestrange combined! Umbridge is solid evil, but you have to love her. If not for anything else, you love J.K. Rowling for creating a character that is so completely easy to hate. She brings the cats, the pink, the truth serum and the locket to Harry, Ron & Hermione. I am filled with hatred toward this character, and I love it!

3. Lotso (Ned Beatty), Toy Story 3
This bear is downright rude and crude. But he makes the whole movie. You expect him to be this cuddly purple bear with some gay flair and a great attitude on being a toy. But he is nothing like Andy's toys and wants to take down anyone who tries to mess with Sunnyside Day Care's toy regime.

4. Annie Wilkes (Kathy Bates), Misery
This woman is straight up crazy! She maims James Caan for Pete's sake. But, her persona and demeanor throughout the entire film is so energized and creepy that it makes you think what a brilliant character. Of course when she dies at the end it is epic and so we don't truly have to hold that hatred forever, but James Caan can't walk so I still hold her responsible.

5. Hannibal Lector (Anthony Hopkins), The Silence of the Lambs
The most disturbing thing about this movie to me, and believe me, I think the whole thing is disturbing, was that I actually liked Lector by the end of the film. It's ridiculous after everything he has done and all the cruelty and pain he has caused, I actually like him and wanting to see good things for him. I hated him and liked him at the same time, that's a weird emotion to have running through your veins. It means: excellent writing.

6. Paul Young (Mark Moses), Desperate Housewives
This dude is beyond mental. First he digs up a pool to cover up a family secret that ends up getting exposed. Then he tries to bring a second chance house to Wisteria Lane allowing convicts to run wild and eventually leading to the cause of a riot in the streets. Finally, when he turned himself into the police, I felt a deep sadness inside that I was not expecting to ever find.

7. Janice Litman (Maggie Wheeler), Friends
"Oh my god, Chandler Bing!" When you read that, you know you hear her painful, squeaky, nasally voice. It takes over your mind and all your thoughts and you are frozen! Just kidding, but the genius behind this characters runs deep. If you ask anyone who they hate the most from the series they would say her, however we love to hate her. She shows up in every single season except for season 6. So you know that the brilliance is greater than the hate in the end.

8. Draco Malfoy (Tom Felton), Harry Potter Franchise
This kid is tough as nails, haha what a joke. Malfoy is a pansy, along with his parents. But, we all hated him in the books and in the films. He represents every bully that any kid has ever had to punch in the face (go Hermione). He the constant antagonist in all of our lives, making us better. So really we love him, but there is a little bit of animosity there at the same time.

9. Sue Sylvester (Jane Lynch), Glee
The very little that I have seen of this show has formed two thoughts in my head. 1. Sue Sylvester is a mean woman and 2. what an amazing character, that's epic writing. So, there you have it: the inner battle of hating what a character does but at the same time thinking it brings the best part of the show and definitely amps up the comedy.

10. Regina George (Rachel McAdams), Mean Girls
Literally, I would say I have a hard time hating this character, because I love it that much! However, if I knew her in real life, I would hate her with a deep passion. Everything about this film screams best writing and there are many characters to love/hate. Here is why Regina George wins this spot: "This is Susan from Planned Parenthood, I have her test results. If you could have her call me as soon as she can. It's urgent, thank you." Mean, but completely true of teenage nastiness.

11. Gollum (Andy Serkis) The Lord of the Rings Franchise
This little dude is evil and wants nothing more than the ring so that he can be happy all by himself. He cares nothing for others, talks in a crazy voice and seriously almost kills Frodo and Sam half a dozen times. But he is a great character, and we love him even though is confused about his identity and mostly everything else!

12. Emily Gilmore (Kelly Bishop), Gilmore Girls
This woman confuses me more than any other character. One minute I hate her for her massive amounts of meddling and maliciousness and the next moment you see how much she truly cares for Lorelai & Rory. She is a deeply confused character who has everything she could ever want in life but is never truly able to achieve happiness within that life. I sometimes yell at the television over the tricks she pulls, but the Gilmore universe would be a sad, lonely place without her presence.

13. Jean Girard (Sacha Baron Cohen), Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby
Seriously, I really don't hate this guy at all, but he is the antagonist of the film. His character is present to shoot Ricky Bobby down and to take racing seriously while still bringing a comedic break to the already hilarious film. His accent is horrible and I hate his hairdo, but I love the idea for the character.

14. Captain Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush), The Pirates of the Caribbean Franchise
Remember guys, at one time, this guy was a bad guy. His whole reputation is dragged through the mud when he partners up with everyone else in the later films, but in The Curse of the Black Pearl he imprisons Miss Swan. His character brings so much richness to the story and his demeanor makes you wish you could hate him. But overall, he is the best to hate because without him the franchise would have sucked.

15. Wade (Kevin Bacon), The River Wild
This character is one that seriously scares me. This whole river-rafting trip gone awry ending up in almost death. It's a fast-paced thriller of a movie and Kevin Bacon's character is what drives all the excitement. You hate him because of what he is doing and his reasons for imprisoning the family, but you love the brutality and the essence of the character.

BONUS: Miranda Priestley (Meryl Streep), The Devil Wears Prada
I guess I couldn't really make this list without this character. It's hard for me to put Meryl's name anywhere near the word hate, but the word love is present too! This is the original character, the best that you love to hate. She is the dragon lady who appears to have a soul of dark black coal. But she really has quite the heart and doesn't know how to use it. She embodies the meaning of love to hate.

These Are A Few of My Favorite Posts

Very soon, on December 28th, will be the one year anniversary of this blog. I cannot believe that it has been a year that I have been writing. It's been a whirlwind and I have had so much fun. I love writing unique posts but most of all, I love sharing them with all of you. Below are links to my favorite posts of the past year. Some of you have probably read a few of them, but check them out. They aren't all the most popular but they were my favorite to craft and write. Enjoy!

Missing the Departed

Just got finished watching the newest episode of Desperate Housewives. As I blogged about a few weeks ago I have felt really horrible as a viewer this season. It has not been up to par because the magic of Marc Cherry, the infamous writer, has been missing.
Last week one of the main characters was set up to die. I knew I wouldn't be watching the episode in time so I avoided anything on twitter, facebook and any other media because I didnt want to find out who was killed. Little did I know that the radio program I listen to in the morning would be discussing the fictional death of Mike Delfino.
If you are a watcher of the show, you will know all about Mike and Susan. The two are a great couple and honestly, I have always been a major fan of their romance. All of the times that they have almost broken up I have been so upset. We all know how I feel about fictional characters. Now, thankfully, Mike and Susan have been happily married for many years of the show.
Mike is killed by a loan shark. I knew this going into the watching of both episodes: his death and his funeral. What I did not know was how much I would be upset by it. The killing itself was graphic for DH. I think that is another thing about Cherry being gone. He always killed people off, good or bad, but he always did it with dignity and not too much gore. This was actually pretty gore. The funeral episode really made me feel as though Cherry himself wrote it. It included a lot of flashbacks and I think that is the reason his presence seemed to be linked throughout the episode.
Throughout all of the seasons of this truly fabulous show, we have had to watch many characters die. That being so, my family has developed a different memoriam for each character who has passed on. We were particularly upset by Carl and that was the first character who was inducted into our Desperate Housewives Hall of Fame. Whenever Carl's name is brought up in the show we repeat his name, kiss our fingers and point them to the sky. Yes, this seems incredibly stupid, and I can tell you that we don't care what you think. This show for us has been such a bonding experience and I know it has been for other families as well.
That all being said, Cherry is a fabulous writer with a real gift for dramatic storytelling. That storytelling piece is what has been missing this season. But going inside the raw emotions of dealing with a funeral and knowing that if this was in fact real life, these characters would truly be going through the same motions and having the same emotions, made it feel as though Cherry was sitting their watching the funeral with you.
My mom, sister and I are truly obsessed, if that isn't obvious since I have now posted twice about this show and I am obviously obsessed with the previous writer. We plan on having a huge series finale party in which we all dress up as a character. I am designated to be Lynette and you know that I won't disappoint! Getting my Scavo's pizzeria shirt as we speak! Keep watching DH'ers! Only four new episodes left. Do you think Bree will be convicted!?

Catching Up

Alright, since we all know that I have been on the move, here are your updates. I promise to be a better blogger when I am not driving cross country.

1. Kim and Kanye moving in together, say what?!?! This is not confirmed, but some sources say that both of them are considering it. Kim has her house on the market ever since a creeper was seen trying to get on the premises a few months ago. But now rumor has it that Kanye is also laying out the for sale sign on his front yard. I think that their relationship is great, and if they are both happy..then who the hell cares?!? But I do think that in regards to being Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, it may be best to keep this whole news quiet for awhile. Don't want Humph to get too jealous and go back to his lawyers for more! Anyway, the news might just be leaked by a fake source anyway.

2. Tori Spelling is moving in next door to Britney Spears. I know this doesn't sound like news to most of us,  but I figured that I would throw it out there in case there are any huge Brit-brit fans. Of course for celebrities, moving next door to each other can sometimes mean up to miles away. Best of luck to Tori and Dean as they move their expanding brood of children. P.S. do not check out that picture of Tori in her weird bathing suit the other day. And if you have already seen it, I offer my apologies to your eyeballs. Just because you are a fit pregnant women does not mean that you should parade your bump (and the rest of you) around town.

3. Justin Beiber in trouble with the photogs? Apparently he is looking at a lawsuit, but we all know that it will get taken care of. I guess he got a little frustrated the other day when some paparazzi were trying to snap a picture of him. It seems that he snapped one of them in the face. Hope it all gets swept under the rug real soon.

4. The Big Year is the movie you should get on netflix or redbox this week. This film stars the greats Steve Martin, Owen Wilson and Jack Black. With this trio there is no way that you can go wrong, and this film is right! The film follows three different birders as they all try to complete "The Big Year." Which in birding terms means trying to find the most species of birds in a calendar year. Hilarity and heartwarming moments ensue. I don't want to give anything more away, but I will say that it has inspired me to have a big year of my own.
