Best On-Screen Chemistry

Let's be honest, no matter how good a plot for a movie is, the movie can be the crappiest thing on the block if the actors aren't right for the roles. I have to say that I think being a casting director is a lot of hard work. The decisions that you make ultimately play a huge hand in whether or not the movie is successful. Even if the actors work well for their specific character, they also have to mesh with the rest of the cast, which means hard work for them most of the time. All this being said, sometimes a movie comes along with such fantastic on-screen chemistry that you have to blink to remind yourself that these are actors portraying a script. Here are the creme' da-le creme' of on-screen chemistry

Ryan Gosling & Rachel McAdams (The Notebook)
There is something perfectly perfect about this whole film. The story brought to us by Nicholas Sparks and the excellent and above par acting of everyone in the cast made it an instant classic. But that isn't the reason that everyone talks about this film as being heart-wrenching, completely emotional and a true tearjerker. The reason for all those explanations is the chemistry that Rachel and Ryan have on screen. It's priceless and perfect.

Tom Hanks & Meg Ryan (Sleepless in Seattle & You've Got Mail)
First off these two are both brilliant actors. They have been at the top of Hollywood for decades. But they also know how to play off of one another. Their chemistry isn't boisterous or loud, but more of an unspoken bond that they have. Their respect for one another as people and actors bleeds through their performance in both films creating a sense of comfort and regularity.

Dermot Mulroney & Debra Messing (The Wedding Date)
This is one of my favorite movies of all time. It makes this exclusive category because of the chemistry between these two. It's magical and yet realistic in a way that most movies can never dream of achieving. It does help that the storyline is great as well.

Brad Pitt & Angelina Jolie (Mr. & Mrs. Smith)
This movie is not one for the top of the charts; it's not horrible, but definitely not Oscar worthy. However, this is the film that gave the world Brangelina. Their sexual tension is steamy and definitely takes the movie from craptastic to alright.

Matt Damon & Emily Blunt (The Adjustment Bureau)
Great movie, even better chemistry. This movie would be meaningless if you didn't want to see this couple together, the whole plot would be a moot point. Damon and Blunt look like a real life couple who are fighting for their lives in a very different kind of chase.
