It's May Day (Top Ten Outdoor Movies)

It's May Day everyone, or as it is more commonly known: the first day of May. I love this day every year. It is a specific reminder in my head that it is finally going to stay this warm temperature that has been flirting with the air and soon I will be able to wear shorts and flip flop every day! A lovely time of year except for the horrendous allergies, but that's beside the point.

In lieu of today's warm weather and holiday I thought it would be fun to write about the top ten movies that make me want to live my life outside. Of course most movies feature a scene or multiple scenes in which the characters frolic outdoors. But these movies are the ones that I associate with warm weather and feeling good.

1. Moonrise Kingdom
Wes Anderson made a literal masterpiece with this movie. I laughed, I cried and I laughed some more until my stomach hurt. It is a unique view of young teenage love during the summertime. More than half of the movie is outdoors and the whole movie is freaking fantastic.

2. Jaws
It might scare the pants off of you (or maybe your bathing suit) but this movie will make you want to hit the beach, no matter what.

3. A Bug's Life
Whenever I watch this movie I think of how fond of bugs I was as a kid. I used to love to put the worm on my dad's fishing hook. I now hate bugs, but this movie makes me believe (just for a moment) that they are really just friendly little creatures having their own outdoor adventures. Plus, I always want to try and build the bird model at the end of the movie.

4. Big Fish
Practically the whole movie takes place outside. It makes you want to live outside, or at least go camping for a few nights.

5. The River Wild
Meryl Streep is brilliant in this film along with Kevin Bacon and John C. Reilly. Rafting down the river  rapids can be great family fun or it can be a dangerous and gun-filled fight for your life.

6. The Parent Trap
Yes, I am referring to the new one with Lindsay Lohan. Say what you will about her, but before she got into partying, she was a terrific actress. I love this movie for more than the summer camp and outdoorsy scenes, but it does also make a fine addition to this list.

7. Dirty Dancing
Again in this film we see the outdoor scenes making a huge impact on the plot. The whole movie is centered around a dance competition that takes place at a summer resort after all. Plus, the dancing isn't half bad to look at and neither is Patrick Swayze.

8.  Enchanted
The most famous scenes of this movies are the ones in central park. I sometimes wonder how they get the greatest city on Earth to cooperate with such movie sets, but for this particular instance, I am glad they did. The movie is not Disney's best, but the scene where "That's How You Know" is sang is truly an amazing outdoor accomplishment.

9. Failure to Launch
Not a true masterpiece, but definitely a high-ranking chick flick. SJP and McConaughey dazzle in this one and Matt's character battles with natures elements in almost every scene. He is bitten by a chipmunk for goodness sakes.

10. Tuck Everlasting
I don't care what anyone says, I think this movie is great. I loved the book, I love the movie and I love Alexis Bledel. It's a win, win, win.
