I am a foodie for sure. I LOVE food almost as much as I love reporting on all things entertainment. So, today I decided to compile a list of the best ten movies to watch featuring food!
1. Under the Tuscan Sun In this film, Diane Lane's character takes off for Tuscany after a very painful divorce. While she is there she decides to buy a Villa and make friends and start a new life. The food in this movie looks delicious and Lane's characters cooks for many of her friends. The reason this movie is truly great is because you can enjoy a fine glass of wine while watching her character rediscover her own life. You will end the movie feeling full and satisfied. Food to pair with this: Red wine and some sort of pasta dish.
2. Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory (the original) This movie is in one word epic. Everyone knows and loves everything about it, from its weird story-line to the magical songs, and let's not forget about Grandpa Joe. Watch this movie with a big honking chocolate bar and a glass of ice cold milk.
3. Willy Wonka (Charlie & The Chocolate Factory) This movie is not as classic as the original, but Johnny Depp brings a weirder flavor to the screen. Today's generation can really appreciate the humor that has been added into the script. Either way, no matter how old you are, this film has a different ending than the original and is definitely worth watching. For the speed and sarcasm behind this film stick to a diet of nerd ropes and a sugary drink like sprite.
4. Bridesmaids Now, for those of you who have seen this film already...no I am not talking about the food poisoning scene. So everyone be sure to steer clear of the Brazilian beef, or any beef for that matter, when watching this film. In fact, don't eat for about the first thirty minutes of the film. But then go ahead and indulge in a good carrot cake with a few friends. This movie is nothing short of funny, and you will be quoting it for the rest of your life.
5. Mystic Pizza Not only is this movie fantastic, but who doesn't enjoy a good pizza? If you say you don't, you're crazy! But seriously, this movie really put Julia Roberts on the map and it also features Lili Taylor. This movie is awesome and is really and truly an 80's film.
6. It's Complicated Yep, you all knew you would find Meryl Streep in this list! Well, here she is. While watching this film you will not laugh your butt off, but you will also get really hungry. Jane, played by Meryl, owns a bakery and the best scene of the film features her and Steve Martin's character making chocolate croissants. The snack: you guessed it chocolate croissants and milk!
7. Chocolat I absolutely love this film. The acting is dead on and the story is darling. I had no idea that I would come to cherish this film the first time that I viewed it. Johnny Depp is young and adorable and he stars with Juliette Binoche and Judi Dench. If you have not seen this movie, it should be first on your foodie movie list! Obviously the snack has to be something with chocolate, which seems to be a common theme. I really enjoy chocolate if you haven't guessed by now.
8. Moonstruck I have blogged about this film before. The movie is truly a masterpiece with the most one liners that I have ever come by in a film. The cast is phenomenal and so incredibly well orchestrated. Cher and Nicholas Cage are the most unlikely couple in my mind, but on screen they fit so well together and create a very romantic duo. The reason it meets foodie movie quality is because of all the Italian food. Seriously, the food is in almost every scene in this movie along with a lot of wine. So make some lasagna and pour yourself a glass, then snuggle up for a great romantic comedy.
9. Ratatouille I have never partaken in eating this actual dish, but I have to say that it looks tasty. The film is adorable, Disney and Pixar really hit the nail on the head with this one. I have a genuine fear of rodents, but when watching this movie the only thing I can think when looking at the animated furry little creatures is precious! Of course there is one perfect dish for this movie, but really any kind of snack will do.
And number 10 the best foodie movie goes to........ Julie & Julia. Ahh the food in this movie looks so delicious! Make sure that you do not start this movie sans some type of food. I would recommend some beef bourguignonne or some lobster. Either way, "Never apologize," if your dish doesn't turn out exactly perfect! Bonus: Jane Lynch is in this movie as well!
So there you go, pick one and have a great Sunday night!
