Sisterhood Everlasting

Call me cliche, but I love a good book series. There is nothing better to me than snuggling up while reading about familiar book characters. Over the course of my short lifetime I have let certain characters come into my life and they have stayed with me. The whole Harry Potter family is a part of me as are the girls from Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. I don't know how many of you have read those books, but they really stuck out to me a teenager. I think I read all of them before I turned fifteen, and then saw the movies which were great as well. I knew there was another book that came out a few years ago, but I never really thought twice about reading it. So when I came across the book Sisterhood Everlasting in the library yesterday, I decided to take out the book and read it on my vacation next week. Less than twenty four hours later I have finished the book and had to write about it.

I seriously feel like I have spent the last day catching up with old friends. The book came out in 2011 and I am honestly not sorry that I didn't read it until just now. Things in life, whether they are a book, an occasion, or a song always see to come around at just the right moment in time. That's how I feel about this book. For those of you who are familiar with the books and the films, I can tell you that you won't be disappointed. You will however be very curious for awhile. I have come to know Brashares as a kind and loving author who cares for characters as if they are real people. I was somewhat confused throughout this story but upon reaching the end you feel that you are coming home.

The book starts out ten years after the last book ended. The characters are the same, and yet they have grown up. Shedding their adolescent minds, this last book has also shed the adolescent feel. It's all about the choices that we make in our lives and how we always have to come back home to what originally grounds us in this life. It's seriously a beautiful book. I normally hate when people say things like that because it sounds fake and forced, but this is truly a work of art. The personalities of the characters are embedded through the pages. Although some of it is predictable, most of it is not and it's a journey of learning and changing as you read.

I definitely recommend the book to anyone. I would suggest if you haven't reading the other books in the series first, making sure to save this one for last. I can't say enough good things about it. I know there will be no follow up film and I am actually grateful for that. I know it's weird for the movie guru and lover to be saying that, but some things are actually left better on the pages of a library book. Although I know picture the girls as the actresses that portrayed them, the idea of a movie of this film would spoil the whole thing. You just seriously have to read it.
