I know if you are living on the east coast the last thing on your mind is probably what to see at the box office this weekend. You are instead worried about how much milk and water you have with the imminent snowstorms that are going to hit tomorrow. But maybe you can make it to the movies on Saturday or Sunday. Trust me when I say that you don't want to miss the films that are gracing the silver screen this weekend.
Two Huge New Films
1. Identity Thief
This film looks nothing short of hysterical. I have seen the preview about fifty times and I laugh so hard every time Melissa McCarthy starts to sing at the end of the trailer. She stars in this comedy along with Jason Bateman. McCarthy's character has stolen Bateman's identity and has been robbing him blind, along with a few other people who show up to kill her. Bateman's character gets involved and then of course they get into a bunch of hi jinx.
Why I'm excited to see it: Jason Bateman has always been known as Mr. Funnyman and he is. Melissa McCarthy made her comedic debut in Bridesmaids and everyone, including me, has been waiting for her next big break to show up. This film is it, not to mention that she also has another movie coming out with Sandra Bullock later on this year. This McCarthy I can get behind, her cousin Jenny McCarthy not so much.
2. Side Effects
I get chills every time I see this preview. The movie looks so good and I really, really hope that I am not disappointed. I don't think I will be because the cast itself is epic including big names like Channing Tatum, Rooney Mara, Catherine Zeta Jones, Jude Law and more. Rooney Mara plays a depressed woman who goes on an anti-depressant and then encounters some very bad side effects. Her doctor and many other people get dragged through the mud when trouble strikes.
Why I'm excited to see it: Besides the fact that I love Law and Tatum, the plot looks really good. I am a sucker for a good thriller, which is weird because I hate horror, but I truly love the element of surprise. I also love being able to solve the problem before you are shown the answer. I will definitely be fighting the elements of winter this weekend to see this movie.
Other films that are also in theaters:
Mama
Warm Bodies
Zero Dark Thirty
Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters
Silver Linings Playbook
