I don't know how many of you are SATC fans, but for me, I'm a little obsessed. I never watched an episode of the show until my sophomore year of college, then my roommate and I watched every episode on DVD. I love the characters, and I think every woman can identify with each of them at a different time in their life.
My favorite is of course Carrie, but I love the raw dynamic of Samantha as well. I own both of the movies and watch them on repeat. You are wondering what this has to do with current entertainment news. Sadly, I cannot tell you that another Sex and the City film is underway. I wish that was the news that I was breaking tonight. In fact, Sarah Jessica Parker just revealed days ago in an interview that she has not heard one word about there being another film. However, she says she will never rule out being Carrie again, because she loves the role so much. That made my day, I think the second movie was pushing the envelope, but I have to admit...I would buy opening day tickets for a third film.
I know many of you feel the same, so what I can pose to you is the project for a new show coming this fall. I have truly not decided how I feel about this yet, maybe I will make up my mind when I see the first trailers. The project is a new show entitled The Carrie Diaries. The plot line is centered around Carrie's life in NYC in the eighties. The style from the still shots looks as fierce as ever.
The weird part honestly to me, is who they cast to play Carrie. I think I am doing the thing I never tell others to do, which is typecasting in my head. The girl who has been cast as Carrie is AnnaSophia Robb. Those of you who saw Soul Surfer, you know who she is. She was also in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Race to Witch Mountain. I don't know why, I just feel as though she is young and innocent to play Carrie. I know that Carrie's character was obviously younger during the time period we are set to view, but something about the casting is odd to me. She is currently 19 years old and she is very talented. I hope she proves to be a good choice. I'm interested to figure out who else will be cast and what direction the show will go in. I am hearing lots of good feedback on the show, and many are relating it to Gossip Girl. I guess only time will tell.
