Skyfall

Four words: Daniel Craig is epic

This Bond film is the creme de la creme; it's the best Bond film out of his three for sure. Never have I felt so emotionally connected to these characters. I am going to try to break down the film, while not giving anything away because I am serious when I say that everyone should see this film. It is not one to miss. And I am sure that there will be many award nods and possible wins that come out of this early next year.

For starters: The cast is simple yet amazing. There are a lot of extras in the film, but the core cast is small. Yes we all know that Daniel Craig not only has a great body, but he is a great actor as well. And we all love and cherish Judi Dench as M, even though her character is razor-sharp around the edges. But this time the supporting cast really made everyone shine that much brighter. First of all...Voldemort is reincarnated. Just kidding, but the film does star Ralph Fiennes. He is brilliant as Gareth Mallory, one of the men who is working to step in and take over MI6. There are times during the film when it seems as if Voldemort is speaking directly to M and I will say, it brought back some good memories. But it is no way a copycat of a character and Ralph compliments the role; as he always does. Second, and here is the greatest and most disturbing character in the cast rolled into one: Silva. Silva is played by Javier Bardem. I really can't even begin to get into how I feel about his character unless you have seen the film. But let's just say, he is high ranks to win best villain of 2012...right up there with Bane. We have entered an age where Bond has been forced, because of the times, to meet terrorism. Many villains no represent deep dark fears that are rooted in those acts. This film is no exception and it brings such a light to the twisted mind of those on a darker side. Silva is a character that is reminiscent of again Voldemort, but also in a way: Hannibal Lector.

That brings me to my next point. There were several times during the film when I was reminded of some epic films. I don't want anyone to think that this is criticism. Films all must borrow ideas from one another and no one script can truly be original anymore. It can have original aspects, but chances are the elements that make up the film have been done before. Some people argue that this is crap and that more original movies should be made, but that is a different story for a different day. At this point in cinematic history all aspects are going to be repeated in some form or fashion. The crazy thing is that Skyfall is completely original, but still contained certain elements from other films. When you go to see it; or if you already have, look for these three films: Harry Potter & the Order of the Phoenix, Home Alone and Silence of the Lambs.

All this being said, the movie is truly fantastic. I will be pre-ordering it from Amazon just so that I can have the DVD the day it comes out. It is completely Bond and utterly fantastic. Every element is sewn together and the actors bring amazing light to the characters. Just get out there and see it...or see it again!
