It's a question that is plaguing a lot of people's minds. The buzz all around Hollywood is that Carey Mulligan turned down the coveted role in Rodham, a biopic that will follow Hillary's life during the Watergate scandals and her decision to put Bill's dreams before her own. This is a huge role to take on, and it has to be fulfilled by the right person. Someone who will be respected by the public while also being someone who can handle the demands of the role. Here are the top women who are picking up most of the attention.
1. Jessica Chastain
She is my personal top pick. She's beautiful, talented and has a poise that would be excellent to channel while playing Hillary. Plus, her streak at the award ceremonies these past few years will give her the boost to getting the role and to hopefully later on sealing the deal on the Oscar.
2. Jennifer Lawrence
Her and Jessica Chastain seems to always be in friendly competition these days, from the award ceremony circuit this past year to this high stakes competition. Lawrence is extremely talented and we have seen that she can do no wrong, no matter how high of a demanding role she is set to play, but is she old enough to take on this role? That I am not sure of and therefore, I think Chastain is the superior pick.
3. Claire Danes
If I have my guesses, which of course I always do, Danes will take the cake and walk away with this role. Claire has created an empire associated with her name and all people of importance recognize her talent and treat her as an esteemed actress. She is talented, and has already done a biopic (Temple Grandin), so I think the deal is already settled.
4. Brit Marling
She hasn't done as much as the other girls, and has never held down the leading lady role in anything, but she is a great actress. It's a long shot that she will even be considered, but you never know.
5. Amy Adams
Adams quest the past couple of years has been to find the good roles. She is hoping to win a huge award and is picking her projects based on their path to the red carpet. I think she is a good actress, but not quite good enough for this.
The role will probably be filled quickly, since it was apparently already offered to Mulligan. Whoever it is, the role will be grueling and will require a lot of work. I have no doubt that one of these ladies can fulfill it with the grace and dignity that it deserves.
