What do you get when you mix the genius of Wedding Crashers with the brains of The Social Network? You get The Internship, a hilarious comedy starring Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn that is hitting theaters on June 7. Jentertainment saw it early though and I can tell you right now that this is not a film to miss this year. Sure, it's not goign to win any awards, and the acting isn't Oscar-worthy, but the laughs are there and you might just pee yourself or snort into your drink. Comedies can be some of the best movies, and this one is a movie that will love on my film shelf for many years to come.
The plot is not unlike other movies, but the added jokes and the creative quirks make this movie rise above the rest. Wilson and Vaughn play the over-enthusiastic salesmen who lose their job and have no other skills. They decide to go for an internship at Google and they score it after a hilarious interview by webcam. They set off to California to find a room full of twenty-year-olds who want nothing to do with them. The dinosaurs have to push their way into the crowd and prove themselves. They finally get sorted into a group of misfit toys and have to try and beat out the alpha dog group that everyone is betting on. You are probably picking up on the vibes that this isn't your usual Vaughn and Wilson comedy. It's deeper than that, Wedding Crashers humor and chemistry is still in the mix but there is also a heart and tenderness present that isn't in that film. The Google nerds make you feel dumb in every scene, but the dynamic duo make you laugh your way through by saying things like when you are "on the line" instead of online.
The only downside to the movie is Max Minghella. He is a young actor who plays the part of the alpha-dog on the other internship group to beat. His presence is annoying from the beginning but by the end of the film you want to shoot yourself in the head over how annoying he is. Sorry to be so negative in a positive post, but when something gets on your nerves, you gotta vent! The rest of the movie is epic genius, it's predictable but so hilarious that you won't even care.
When June 7 comes around, you better get to seeing this. You won't be sorry, go with your friends and laugh your head off.
