After literally eating this book while on the beach this week, I had to write a post about this great book and great author. The book is Wallflower in Bloom and it is written by the extremely talented Claire Cook.
I have never read a book by Claire Cook before reading this one, but my mom has been reading them for years. I've seen Must Love Dogs and that was based on the book written by Cook, but that's it. I brought your typical beach reads this week with authors that I have come to rely on such as Nicholas Sparks and Jane Green. I didn't know what I was missing by not reading Cook novels. My mom handed me the book after she read it just as quickly and said you will love it. She couldn't have been more right. The book is fast-paced, hilarious, true to life and all about social media (which is of course right up my alley). I found that I was not only laughing and crying along with the main character, but I was falling in love with this author. Her style of writing seems effortless and timeless all at once. She has a way of making you connect with the characters as if you are literally a part of them. I loved the story and the characters, but even more as I entertainment blogger, I loved the connections to media that Cook brought into the book. Deirdre is a social media guru and uses her knowledge to help her get ahead. I try to get ahead with social media all the time.
You may be thinking, ok sounds great, but what the hec is the book about? It's about Diedre Griffin and how she has been a wallflower her whole life. She is middle-aged and works for her brother, Tag, who is a New Age guru who bosses all of his family members around. She decides to get back at him and have a chance at her own life by altering his Facebook fan page to say that fans should vote for her to join Dancing With The Stars. Of course she makes the last spot that someone else dropped out of and then she is on her way to Hollywood and her fifteen minutes of fame. What is costs her along the way and what she learns is up to you to find out once you read the book. I'm not going to tell you anything else because I seriously want you to pick up a copy for yourself.
