For all of you who are stuck inside because of Nemo, I am with you! For all of you in different parts of the country or elsewhere, this post won't apply to you right now but it will in the future unless you live somewhere tropical, and if that's the case I don't feel sorry for you. Snowstorms make you feel a little bit cooped up, especially Nemo with over 30 feet of snow in some places. So here is a list of films you can watch. Most of them are classics or light and entertaining. You will need anything to pass the time, unless you are shoveling. If you are I say good luck and God be with you!!
1. Finding Nemo
Not just because this storm is named Nemo, but this movie is actually a good one to watch when cooped up inside. You can enjoy the animated tropics and warm waters while being entertained by Nemo, Marlin and Dory. I don't see a way that you could go wrong with this pick.
2. Groundhog Day
If you are feeling like you are stuck inside, this movie is perfect for you. Actually it will make you feel worse because the same day repeats over and over again. However, this is the only movie that I actually like Bill Murray in so you should probably check it out.
3. Jaws
This movie used to scare me so badly as a kid. But now it's just a great movie to watch. I never think of watching however, unless I am stuck inside. You could watch just one or all three, either way you won't be sorry.
4. Step Brothers
I don't think this recommendation really needs an explanation, but just in case you are really struggling as to why it's on this list: it's downright hysterical and that's all you need to know.
5. Julie & Julia
Not only is this movie a master achievement of a film with Meryl Streep in one of her finest roles, but it's also light-hearted and all about cooking. When you can't go anywhere, what's more fun than putting this movie on, cracking open a bottle of wine and having a good time?
6. The Sound of Music
A classic that a large majority of my generation has never seen. I think that sometimes snowstorms and other natural disasters are times for us to catch up on our film education. If you are stuck inside right now with Nemo, you know that even though the snow has stopped, there is still a lot of time before this is all over. So seriously just bite the bullet and watch this movie. I don't know why everyone is so against seeing it, because once you see it you will always want to watch it.
7. Independence Day
This is my favorite film from the genre "The world is ending!! Ahh!!" Sometimes during big weather catastrophes, it's fun to get in the spirit and watch something like this. Aliens are coming and Will Smith and Bill Pullman have to fight them off, what's better than that?
8. Misery
The fact that this movie takes place during a snowstorm just adds to the multiple reasons why it's perfect for this list. You cannot go wrong with this movie starring James Caan and Kathy Bates at her most terrifying. Snuggle up with a blanket and don't let anyone maim you.
9. The Godfather Trilogy
This is an offer you can't refuse. But seriously, watching all three of these movies is a great way to pass the time while being thoroughly entertained. By the end of watching all three you will probably believe that you are a mobster stuck in the snowbanks.
10. West Side Story
Another classic, but yet again one that a lot of people don't take the time to watch. I love, love, love the music in this one and you can sing it all the way the movie and then through the shoveling of your property!
Have fun this weekend all of you who are fighting against Nemo! The rest of you out there in the world, don't forget about this list the next time snow or any other weather strikes.
