Parenthood

This week was the season finale of Parenthood. I don't know how many of you are watching this show, but it is one of the best on television. The characters are so true to life, the dilemmas are heartbreaking, redeeming and beautiful. The storyline for those of you who don't know revolves around four siblings who are grown up with their own families. The spouses, siblings, grandparents and children all go through a lot but through it all they have their cooky family to rely on. This season was the fourth one, but there is apparently no contract under renewal yet.

I had no fear that the show would get renewed, until I saw the finale. As I watched it today all I could think was that everything seemed very final. All of loose ends except were tied up, the characters all seemed very settled and all was sing-songy great. I am beyond happy that Kristina's cancer is gone, and that Ryan and Amber will make it and that Crosby and Jasmine are pregnant. But don't all of those things seem very end of movie-ish? Maybe I am the only one who noticed the tone but I am praying that it's just a fluke. In it's four seasons of existence this show has brought a lot of tears to my eyes. I always say that I cannot make it through an episode without shedding a tear. But that's the best part of the show.

Even though it never gets nominated it deserves to win some major awards, especially Monica Potter for her performance this season. Her character struggled with and beat cancer. Monica approached the role with diligence, patience and most importantly heart. Her journey was so believable and so heroic. I know, here I go again, acting like the characters are real. But, her acting makes it really seem as if her character does exist. The other great part of the show is watching beloved actors take up new roles. Craig T. Nelson has been the rock of the family, patriarch role for four years.  Lauren Graham who played Lorelai Gilmore in Gilmore Girls is one of the main characters in the show and she has taken on a whole new role. But everyone who loved her as Lorelai has loved her here as well. Not to mention this season, Ray Ramano became a steady guest star which was amazing as well.

I will honestly be so sad if this show does not get renewed. I will cry more than I have in all the episodes put together. Please, please, please bring my show back for another season.
