Kate's Potrait

The whole world seems to be abuzz today about Kate Middleton's first official portrait. The artist, the family, the Queen and apparently herself all had rave reviews concerning the finished product. The public however has not given the portrait the same approval or respect.

Kate literally stepped onto the scene and was immediately loved by the public eye. Never has there been anything bad to say. Even this past summer with all the topless photos, I never heard a negative word uttered about Kate, or William for that matter. The world is still singing joyful tunes since the announcement of their pregnancy. You better believe that baby will be more popular than Blue Ivy. This woman has also literally become a style icon, more women are now looking to her than to Kim Kardashian (finally). None of this information is new, but it does show how beloved the Grand Duchess truly is. That's why it is sad that the portrait does not capture her essence. I am the public and I am standing up to say that it's devastating how the picture turned out. I don't know what the artist was thinking.

In reports, it is claimed that Kate loves the portrait along with William. Kate's family was quoted as saying that it's the real Kate. But what comes across to me is a beautiful woman with bags underneath her eyes. I get that maybe the artist was trying to be true to life, but this is the most famous woman in the world right now and he made her look tired and almost disheveled.  It's reminiscent of old portraits painted many years ago when amazing mediums hadn't been invented yet. This portrait looks as though it belongs in a vampire's lair or on the walls of the Beast's castle (Beauty and the Beast). Kate's in mind reaction was something probably along the lines of "Oh crap, what did he do to my face," but of course she responded with "absolutely brilliant." In addition to the bags under her eyes, her cheeks appear droopy and her smile looks more like a pissed off look than a smile. It's recognizable as being Middleton and of course it's still beautiful but the man who painted it will be out of work for quite some time because of the results. Check out the portrait below and let me know your thoughts.
