Django Unchained

Seeing Django Unchained is for sure an experience. In Quentin Tarintino's new film the characters are riveting, and the dialogue is the most meticulously planned that I have seen in quite some time.  It's literally a journey, the characters travel thousands of miles by horse and you as the viewer travel through 165 minutes of reel.

The film is receiving rave reviews, but some people are still criticizing the film for its plot and storyline in general. This is to be expected. The film is a vulgar look at slavery and bounty hunting that is filled with viciously gory scenes and blood and guts exploding like something out of Monty Python and the Holy Grail, but 2012 style. Many people have an issue with slavery being depicted in this way and the dialogue that surrounds the film. To this, all I have to say is I don't agree. The movie is made by Tarintino, I don't know what these hateful reviews and critics were expecting. He is known for blood, guts and raunchy dialogue and plots. Some say he is deranged, I say he is a deranged genius. This film in particular adds humor to a very un-humorous point in America's past. I am not kidding when I say the film is laugh out loud funny. I was not expecting this at all, but the funny edge makes the film all the more enjoyable.

The casting is truly the best part. I always applaud the actors who sign on for Tarintino films because they never truly know the scrutiny they will face by the A-listers in Hollywood.  That being said, Quentin is not a director that is not famous. He is well appreciated in his realm and he deserves the recognition that he has gained. This cast is comprised of Jamie Foxx, Christoph Waltz, Leonardo DiCaprio, Kerry Washington and Samuel L. Jackson in disguise. If there was an Academy Award for best duo in a film Foxx and Waltz would take the cake. Of course their witty dialogue was created for them, but their portrayal of their characters is witty, indulgent and well crafted. Leo's role is hilarious and terrifying at the same time, and as always he fills it with ease.

The forbidden love story between Foxx and Washington combined with the massive amounts of killing and blazing guns makes the first two hours of the movie go by fast. I will say that my only criticism of the film was the last twenty minutes or so. It needed to be wrapped up and tied with a bow. But other than that the film is literally flawlessly made. I would highly recommend that everyone sees it.
