Eleven Greatest Actresses of My Time

I have been pondering this post for awhile. I have written a lot of posts like this, but actresses are so iconic in today's world. I think it is important that women are represented and so I have decided to dedicate this list just to the cream of the crop of my time. So, in the past twenty two years, almost twenty three, these are the women who have really shown their stuff when it comes to the big screen.

1. Meryl Streep: You all knew it was coming! However, I am not the only person who would draw this conclusion. In fact, millions of people around the world call her the greatest actress that ever lived, or the greatest living actress. Although the obsession that I have with her acting career is truthful, it doesn't mean that she isn't important for everyone to recognize. Streep has seriously cut the path for women in acting and almost any up-and-coming actress will say that Meryl is one of their top inspirations.

2. Kate Winslet: Obviously this woman has had her day at the theater. She actually recently had the same day for a second time with the re-release of Titanic. She showed the world what she could do with that film but has done so much more than that in recent years. Have you seen The Reader? Oh dear god, she is absolutely brilliant in that movie. Kate Winslet is the pinnacle of beauty if you ask a man or a woman. But what she brings to the table to get her on this list in particular is her grace. When she on screen it is literally as if she belongs there. She is the role that she is playing with no faults or missteps.

3. Shirley MacLaine: Pretty much if Meryl Streep wasn't out there, Shirley would be a lot more famous. The two actually starred in a film called Postcards From the Edge as a mother and daughter duo. Shirley is amazing and always brings a laugh with her to the silver screen. She seriously looks like one of those people who would be a blast and a half to hang out with in the real world. Some of my favorites of hers are Rumor Has It and In Her Shoes.

4. Helen Mirren: One phrase: "Wash your winky!" Gotta love Helen Mirren in Arthur. I mean really, who else could have played opposite of Russell Brand better? This woman is a queen when it comes to acting (you like that joke right?!). But in all seriousness she is an actor that is cherished and loved, and for good reason.

5. Angelina Jolie: I wouldn't have always put her on this list. I used to dislike Angelina. I was a huge fan of Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston back in the days of Friends. When Angie came along, I really disliked her. Since then, I have matured a little bit and realized that this woman brings a quality that no one else can to the screen. I have seen a lot of her films and the variety of roles and personalities that she can show the world will never cease to amaze me. Best thing that she has done has to be hands down The Changeling, that movie will stick with you for quite some time.

6. Nicole Kidman: I have loved Nicole ever since I saw Moulin Rouge when I was 11. Obviously she has the allure behind her acting because she is absolutely gorgeous, but she has also always known the right roles to pick for herself. If you ever question her ability to be on this list, then you definitely have not seen Rabbit Hole.

7. Kathy Bates: Hello, Rat Race!!! "Wanna buy a squirrel?" What's more comical than that. But it is just laughs that Kathy brings to the world, she can also deliver such a touching character and makes us cry. Some of her greatest works would be Fried Green Tomatoes, Titanic, and who can forget her amazing performance in The Blind Side. She has earned her spot on this list and I know we will see amazing things from her in the next couple of years as well.

8. Sally Field: I grew up watching Forrest Gump and Mrs. Doubtfire so I have always cherished Sally Field as a great American iconic actress. Just recently I saw The Amazing Spiderman and she outdid herself once again. She was absolutely fantastic in that role. If you don't like Ms. Fields, I am pretty sure you have a problem.

9. Helena Bonham Carter: I have never seen this woman in a role that she didn't nail on the head. In the Harry Potter films, I actually hate her more than Voldemort and she is more convincing in her role than Ralph Fiennes is. Sorry Ralph, but it's true. Other than her amazing feats in that franchise she has also starred in Sweeney Todd, The Kings Speech, Alice in Wonderland, Dark Shadows and Bigfish. This woman is seriously talented.

10. Sandra Bullock: This woman is talented. There is no doubt about it. I think for those haters out there, which there were some, they all shut up after The Blind Side hit theaters. This woman is seriously amazing and can really do anything. I love Miss Congeniality and she strutted her stuff in Crash. Recently, I realized the true depth behind her acting when I saw Premonition. She can do no wrong and she will always be America's sweetheart.

11. Natalie Portman: Portman rounds out this list because of one breathtaking role: The Black Swan. Trust me, I know that she deserves this spot on this list and she will continue to prove that to the world. But truly her acting in The Black Swan is the creepiest thing ever! The dance training that went into that film not to mention figuring out how to get into the psyche of that character is a force to be reckoned with. Great job Natalie.
