Last night Meryl Streep presented Viola Davis with an award at the Women Film's Crystal + Lucy Award Ceremony. It was no doubt an exciting night for both women.
As we all know, when Meryl Streep won the Best Actress category at this year's Oscars, which is fabulous, but what that also meant was that Viola Davis did not win. Competition is not something that is an issue for this dynamic and powerful duo of women though. Both Streep and Davis praise the other for their work on a regular basis. Streep feels as though she has seen something of great value in Viola, something that is not regularly seen, even in the Hollywood community. Davis feels as though Meryl has taken her in and given her wisdom. Both appreciate and love one another, and I always enjoy seeing them interact. They are both amazing when they interact in interviews, and we all have seen their amazing acting onscreen together in Doubt. Viola was only in the film for a total of eight minutes, but those eight minutes were a huge jumping off point for her and real showed her merit in Hollywood and around the world.
I know that Davis will continue to do amazing things. I also know that along the way we will get the pleasure of witnessing Meryl and Viola interact. Hopefully, they will be able to do another project together soon.
Next up for Meryl is Hope Springs which hits theaters on August 10th. Coming up for Viola is Won't Back Down which we will be able to see on September 28th. This movie looks epic and also stars Maggie Gyllenhaal. The two fight against a rough inner-city school system. It is sure to push Viola even further up on the amazing actresses meter. She has already proved she is worth it, and I know this role will only make the world love her more!
