Yesterday, I saw Rock of Ages. I will say that I was overly excited to see this film. I am a huge Alec Baldwin fan and I have loved both Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Get Him to the Greek, so I was beyond excited to see Russell Brand as well. I will say that the movie did live up to my expectations. Of course, if you have read my blog before, you know that I am going to break it down for you.
Here were the fantastic aspects: Russell Brand and Alec Baldwin. Neither one of them could have been better cast and their onscreen chemistry was classic! Diego Boneta was great in the role of Drew. The music was epic and I will definitely be buying the soundtrack. And even though I am not a fan of Tom Cruise, I was a huge fan of Stacee Jaxx! Tom Cruise did an excellent job portraying the ultimate rock and roll superstar. I think he has some experience in this area, but his character was awesomely crafted. The costumers had a big job though, because they covered his face for the majority of the film. I think that the producers were trying to hide the fact that they actually cast Tom Cruise. I hope that this is a sort of reinvention from himself. I would like to see him in more roles like this.
The bad things about the film were few and hard to find, but one of them was blaring. Julianne Hough was not the right person for the main role. I am not her biggest fan, but I will admit that I really did like her in the Footloose remake. I am torn, but overall, I just think that this wasn't the best fit for her. Her voice was a little bit too high and she seemed to be overacting at some points. I know that she is older than the role she was fulfilling but it seemed as though she was overcompensating for that during some of the scenes. I know that she will continue to have a great career though, and this is a huge stepping stone for her.
