August: Osage County

Based on the play by Tracy Letts, August: Osage County triumphs in theaters. An amazing script as well as a star-studded cast paint the all-too-realistic picture of a broken family. It's powerful, spirited, downright mean and truly hilariously funny. It's a strong film about coming home to face the reality of family that will make you laugh until you cry. While at the same time will make you feel completely heartbroken over the loss and pain that this one complex family is going through.

The movie centers around the ever too eager to leave daughter (Julia Roberts) and the drug addict mother (Streep). The other vivacious and crazy characters include two other sisters, a crazy aunt and uncle, a boyfriend, a husband, and a weird cousin. Not to mention one grandchild (Abigail Breslin) to round out the cast. The most amazing scene is truly over twenty minutes long where the entire cast sits at a table to eat a celebratory meal. It ends a full wrestling match between Roberts and Streep. I don't want to give away too much information about this film. But I will say that it's delicate, and it's message is deeper than it appears. It's a Harvey Weinstein film, which says a lot, and is nominated for multiple awards including Best Cast in a Motion Picture next week at the Screen Actor's Guild Awards.

Basically, it's not a film to be missed. Streep puts on the performance of a lifetime, and the rest of the cast obviously had amazing chemistry with one another and were able to feed off of Streep's energy. If you enjoyed Meryl in The Devil Wears Prada, you will love her smart mouth in this film. Check it out this weekend before the Golden Globes tomorrow.
