I'm very upset by the news that I just read. I have blogged about this dynamic duo before, and how much I love them. I literally think that Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb are amazing together on the Today Show. Without them, there would be no fourth hour and no reason for me to watch the Today Show at all anymore. So, I was startled when I stumbled across a story in the news today that claims the two are fighting over the location of their show. I can't imagine these two getting into a real fight over anything. But the story goes like this, as you know the show shoots in NYC along with the rest of the Today Show. Apparently, KLG wants the show to move out of New York and to Los Angeles, CA. They have been there for the past week and a half shooting shows. This is not that out the ordinary because every year the two take a trip and film episodes in a different location. I have not been a fan of the episodes that have been shot in El Lay. They are choppy, moving the women around too much, it has become more of an Entertainment Tonight feel than their normal show. Plus, they have yet to have any really entertaining guests on the show out there with the exception of Blake Shelton. And that's only big to me because I like country music. I guess Hoda agrees, because she does not want the show to move to Los Angeles (and she also loves Blake Shelton). She is compromising right now by filming the episodes in California, but has apparently stated that she would not permanently move there unless there was other opportunities for work on top of doing the fourth hour.
I think the whole thing is ridiculous. I understand where Kathie Lee is coming from. I think she is older than Hoda and is maybe feeling that it's time for her and Frank to move somewhere warmer to start their golden years leading into retirement. That's all fine and good, but she obviously has no plans to retire, so why rush the whole moving across the country thing?! Not to mention that the two are New Yorkers. Yes, I know that Hoda started out in New Orleans and that will always be a special place to her, but I have lived in KC and that doesn't make me a Kansas Citian for life. Plus, KLG has a show on Broadway right now, Scandalous, why would she want to pack up and move out of New York? There are obviously a million questions to be asked and I have asked about half a dozen of them. I don't think we are going to get the answers, but I highly doubt that the show will end of moving. I don't think NBC would be too thrilled about the idea of having to shoot the Today Show in two different parts of the country, dealing with time zones and everything else involved. I know that all the hosts of the Today Show, including the fourth hour, all have their own people working for them and that the fourth hour functions almost as it's own show entirely but still. It's not going to happen, at least that's what I am going to tell myself because I love to go stand outside of the Today Show. Yes, I am one of those people. What do you think about the whole so-called feud?!
