Mindy Kaling, best known for her work on The Office and The Mindy Project, is a seriously funny human-being. I am sure you are all very well aware of that fact right now. But what you may not be aware of is that her book: Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns) is one of the funniest pieces of literature I have ever come across.
It's funny, whole-hearted, brave, straight to the point, hilarious, relatable and about a million and a half other adjectives. I don't think I can write a post that gives it full justice. The main point of what I am trying to say is that I, myself, want to hang out with Mindy Kaling. I knew that before I read the book, but now I feel like I have bonded with her. We could share a cup of coffee and discuss her views on the fact that she secretly thinks Steve Carell is Perez Hilton. Or how she has an entire chapter on the rules of being best friends (and it's not cheesy rules that you made when you were in eighth grade, it's the real honest-to-God code that women run their friendships on). The book is so fresh and poignant that it's literally like having a one-sided conversation with your bestie of choice.
The best part of the book to me wasn't a specific chapter of passage, but how real Mindy is. She is a very famous person who has a lot of great ideas that come across both in her acting and writing. She is well-known and is pretty much a big deal! But, she doesn't think she is all that and a bag of apples. She just tells it like it is and explains that fame isn't all it's cracked up to be. What she thinks is valuable is doing what you love, which is what every person should think is valuable. Seriously pick up this book, you won't be sorry. Just make sure that you aren't consuming any liquids while reading because that could cause you to literally spray everything/one around you when you erupt in laughter, which happens quite frequently- at least that's what happened to me!
