The Great Gatsby

Ready, set, go...just kidding you still have to wait six and a half weeks for The Great Gatsby film. But this countdown is getting closer and closer and I could not be any more excited if I tried. This movie has been teasing me for a really long time. I have been obsessed with the book since reading it the summer before my junior year of high school. Then I saw the original film (1974) which stars Robert Redford and Mia Farrow and it sucked. Flash forward a few years and I hear that Leonardo Dicaprio was going to be Gatsby and after seeing a preview and getting super excited the film got delayed. The reason behind that is hopefully because they want to dominate the award show circuit and they knew they wouldn't steal the whole scene going up against Les Miserables. When the film release initially got delayed I was downright pissed, but if they are truly going to dominate next year, then I am ok with it!

The whole thing has been a nightmare, and if it doesn't hold up to it's expectations I will cry my eyes out...seriously!! However, I truly think that the movie is going to be glorious. I get chills every time I see the trailer that I have been seeing for months and every time I see one of the new teaser clips that are around I about combust with excitement. The casting could not be better if you ask me. There is something so regal about Gatsby's character and who is more regal in Hollywood than Leo? I think the answer you are searching for is no one. The rest of the cast is star-studded and amazing as well with Carey Mulligan, Joel Edgerton, Tobey Maguire and Isla Fisher.

I will be first in line to see this movie. Even though I have to work very early the next morning I am seriously considering going to see the first showing at midnight. If it was acceptable, I would dress up as a flapper. If I could live in another other time period it would definitely be the 1920's. My sister has actually been instructed to throw me a Great Gatsby themed birthday party for my 30th birthday. So, it wouldn't be an understatement to say that I am borderline obsessed with this story. If you haven't read the book yet you should download it on your tablet or rush to Barnes & Noble right now. It is one of those books that is truly magical to read and it encompasses all parts of you while you read. And trust me, this really is one of those times when you want to read the book before seeing the film! So go now and look forward to May 10!
