A new interview with Lori Loughlin who plays Aunt Becky on Full House reveals that she has never thought of John Stamos in a romantic way. They were always in sync with their chemistry, but never with their love lives. It got me thinking about all the television couples that as a preteen (and still now) I was convinced should truly be together in real life. Let's face it, the chemistry that is created on screen (whether it be the big or small) can have some big effects on the real lives on the stars. Many stars over the years have hooked up, gotten hitched and broken up. The news of all of these things is what makes up about 30% of the posts on this very blog. But some of the stars have completely avoided getting involved and my teenage self is still wishing that they would have fought the feelings of reality and either become the characters they were playing or adopted their characters' love lives.
First, here are the two cutest exceptions! These couples actually did fall in love, the latter list is the ones who let us down, so let's make ourselves happy by looking at these two couples first.
1. Michael J. Fox and Tracy Pollan
These two were both on Family Ties and made the cutest couple. They made America's dreams come true by actually getting married.
2. Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis
On That 70's Show we saw Jackie annoy the crap out of Kelso, but we still wanted the two of them to be together. She was cute with Hyde, but her soulmate was Michael. Now we get to see them together all the time supporting one another's careers and denying that they are a couple. But it's all good in fans' eyes because we can't get enough of this adorable couple.
Couples Who Make Our Dreams Crash & Burn
1. Scott Patterson and Lauren Graham
On Gilmore Girls I literally cannot get enough of this couple. I re-watch the episodes where they are together because of their insane onscreen chemistry. It's crazy adorable. Although Lauren Graham is now happily dating her Parenthood costar Peter Krause, I am still holding out for her and Luke to make their Stars Hollow romance a reality.
2. David Schimmer and Jennifer Aniston
I have to say knowing what I know now about these two a decade later, their relationship would never work. But as a teenager I wished that they would abandon their real lives and become Ross & Rachel. That finale with Rachel saying: "I got off the plane!" moves me to hysterical tears every time I see it. Their love was real, even though it was through television characters on a scripted show shot mostly in a purple apartment.
3. Eric Stonestreet and Jesse Ferguson
These two are beyond hilarious on Modern Family but America will have to settle for the reality of Jesse and his fiance Justin Mikita. Which is so cute that I am eating it up!
4. John Krasinki and Jenna Fischer
Gotta love these two on The Office. I think everything that John touches turns to gold, but these two have a rare chemistry that is truly hard to find. They are downright the cutest thing ever while still being hilariously funny. It's a hard and killer mix to come by. Whoever does the casting for that show should get a pat on the back because although I love Emily Blunt, half of me still wants Jim to be with Pam.
5. Ed Westwick and Leighton Meester
Chuck and Blair are one of the hottest couples to ever grace the small screen. They have wealth, looks, mischief and each other. Through all their ups and downs and other partners, I always wanted them together and apparently so did Dan Humphrey on his secret post as being Gossip Girl. It's funny to think that in the books that the series are based on that the hot relationship was Nate and Blair.
6. Gregory Smith and Emily Vancamp
Now that Emily is super successful with Revenge she has probably forgotten all about the relationship between Ephram and Amy, but I have not. There was something so innocent about their love in their little mountain town in those precious teenage years.
7. Ty Burrell and Julie Bowens
Again, Modern Family really knows how to match people up with their casting for effective chemistry. I want to marry someone who is exactly like Phil Dunphy, so maybe that makes me partial to their romance but I find it riveting and funny.
8. Doug Savant and Felicity Huffman
Through all Lynette and Tom's up and downs on Desperate Housewives I always loved them. The years that they were together were trying, hard, emotional, uplifting and funny. And the years that they were apart were unbearable. Overall they may have a love onscreen that rivaled Ross and Rachel.
You decide, who is your onscreen couple that you wish would get together in real life? Or maybe its the couple that you are still obsessed with...tell me about it in the comments.
