As we all know, The Today Show has been undergoing some major changes. You have all noticed it and I have blogged about it in previous posts. But I am going to delve in again and see what you guys really think. As I sit here right now watching KLG and Hoda, also known as the fourth hour, everything seems normal and great. These two are the most amazing duo on television if you ask me. I am currently cracking up over iHoda's playlist. They get each other and play off of one another so well. I wish that I could say the same for the rest of the anchors in the earlier hours.
The newest Co-Anchor for Today is Savannah Guthrie. Savannah is a great reporter and she had vast knowledge on law-related stories because of her background. I don't want to discredit her in this post, I just don't feel like she was the right choice for this position. I still am sad about the fact that Ann Curry left, she has been with the show since 1997. I have watched this show since around 1997, so I grew up in the days of Katie Couric and Anne Curry. Not only did the two of them get along so well, but they also all got along with Matt Lauer and Al Roker. Those were the days, and I, as all people, understand that things have to change. That was why when Meredith Viera was welcomed, the new foursome worked just great. And I can't blame Meredith for leaving either, and it seemed the perfect choice to promote Ann to co-anchor. But because of recent events I have lost respect for the first morning hours of the Today Show. They are changing everything including the furniture on the sets and the way that they interact with one another. They are doing this for one reason: ratings. I think the problem is that fans were not looking for a reboot, they were looking for Ann to stay and for the same great news and interactions to still be on their TV. NBC was looking to get rid of Ann because of interactions off camera, and they made the change look like they were doing it for increased ratings. I do not think that this reboot is going to drive the ratings very far up. I hope for the show's case that it manages to push their viewings to a more comfortable level. I would hate to see this show die, and I seriously hate Good Morning America so I would be out of morning entertainment and news. Best of luck Today!
