For all of you have been hiding under a rock, Titanic comes out in 3D today! I am so excited for this re-release and I will definitely being going. I have always been a huge fan of Titanic! Seeing it in 3D will be awesome, and you can make fun of me as much as you want. There is something so completely '90s about Titanic, it is one of those films that has really stuck with that time. At some point this weekend, I will definitely be going to a movie theater to see this film.
Apparently, both Leonardo and Kate are not fans of watching themselves in this particular film. It came out over fifteen years ago, so for both of them there is bound to be some embarrassment or looking back on their early careers in a bad light. I think that is natural for a person in any job. The more time you spend doing a certain profession, the more talented you are going to become. And of course, I would agree with that. I think the two of them have done nothing but grow since the movie hit theaters fifteen years ago. When you chronologically look at their careers you can see that Titanic is the jumping off point for both of them. I can understand not wanting to look back at it. I can also see how the enormity of the film would make you be tired of it. What I don't understand is why Kate Winslet is publicly slamming the film and the theme song.
For all of you who don't remember, the theme song would be none other than the infamous My Heart Will Go On. The song is of course sung by Celine Dion. Here's the thing, as a seven year old, I was in love with this song. I used to dance around in my room and so now I have very fond memories of both the song and Celine Dion. However, this was not the case for much of America. Older crowds who saw the film were bombarded with the song being replayed over and over again on every radio station. It actually has topped charts as the worst song of all time. All of this is completely understandable. What's weird is the fact that Kate is coming out in an interview going off about how much she hates the song and that it follows her like a ghost. I get it, but to say it seems a little bit disrespectful. This movie put her on the map, and especially at this time I would be doing nothing other than promoting the film with every positive note that I could sing.
We will see how the numbers turn out at the box office this weekend. Some are predicting it could bring in over 100 million. Not that it needs to, but hopefully putting this money in James Cameron's pocket will inspire him to create another epic film.
